Council Composition

How the Ngwathe Municipal Council is constituted — ward and proportional representation seats, office bearers, and committees.

The Ngwathe Municipal Council is constituted in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998. Half of the councillors are elected directly by voters in the municipality's wards, and half are elected from party lists on a proportional representation basis, so that the total seat allocation reflects the proportion of votes each party received.

Types of Seats

Ward Councillors
Directly elected by the voters registered in a specific ward. A ward councillor represents that ward in Council and chairs its ward committee.
Proportional Representation (PR) Councillors
Elected from party lists. PR councillors serve the municipality as a whole rather than a single ward.

Office Bearers

Council Committees

Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC)
